Praying Mantis

My husband and I were outside late looking at the new light he had just installed above the garage door as part of the house renovation.  I spied two Praying Mantises crawling up the old 1948 white wood boards that are awaiting new siding to cover their weathered exterior.  We watched with curiosity and fascination as those little creatures crawled and then stopped and . . . prayed.  What a simple pleasure it was to stand and watch, and point, and take pictures of  a delight so rarely seen.

  1. Oh, wow, Stephani, you captured him beautifully--love the bokeh but he is crystal clear. Yes, that would have to classify as a simple pleasure just watching him--capturing a picture like that.... an unexpected miracle for me!

    Great job.

  4. What an awesome photograph. I don't think I've ever seen a praying mantis. I agree, a real simple pleasure observing this fascinating little creature.

  7. "We watched.... and the little creatures came out and prayed..."

I just loved, LOVED that. I wonder if that's the perspective of God and his son as we little creatures do the same. I just really loved the image that this conjured up in my head.

  11. I sometimes see them on the plants in my garden and once in a while on my sliding door screen. They are good insects to have in your garden too! Great picture!
